Government

Why There are So Many Forms of Government

Government is a touchy subject for millions of people. There are so many types of governments from communist to democratic to social, and they all have their supporters and detractors.

To help you understand government better, the Internet can be your best friend. You can study the history of government, get simplified definitions of different types of governments. You can also study famous and infamous government officials such as Napoleon, Henry VIII, Lincoln, Mussolini, Roosevelt, Kennedy (any one of them!) and more recent ones like Clinton or Bush.

Government is always controversial. And you want to stay in the know about what's going on in government around the globe. Newspapers and magazines are good choices for information on government, but the Internet versions may be even better. You can find up-to-the-minute information on websites from CNN, NBC, Fox News and many others.

You can also find many discussion boards and chat rooms online where you can find people who are discussing the latest governmental and world issues. Never before has it been possible for so many people to say what they think about their government, their president, monarchs and even dictators! The world has gotten much smaller.

And many government officials would like to see this changed. In the United States, many people in Congress would like for people to hush up and not have their political scandals disclosed or discussed! This is the same for most government officials in every country. Political scandals and inappropriate behavior are always hot topics.

Most people feel they should be. This is, again, especially true in the United States where people are free to hold demonstrations and marches when they disagree with what the government is doing. This is both one of the best and worst parts of democratic governments - free speech brings out the best in some people and the worst in others.

Still, people should have a say in what goes on in their government. Countries like Iraq and Iran have been forced for decades to keep silent about their political views. Dictators don't allow freedom of speech - or any other type of freedom either, for that matter.

Government officials need to be held accountable for their actions, no matter what the country, whether it's America, China, Germany, Iran or Iraq. The same is true for individual states in the United States, from the federal government level to the state government level to the city and county government level. When government officials are voted into office and paid with tax money from their populace, they should be held to high standards of behavior, in many people's opinion.

And the Internet makes this easier than ever to do. Whether you're having an issue over paying your property tax or want your state to create a lottery, you can get online and easily find the government agency or government office you need to get in touch with. No more endless dialing or letters that go unanswered. This is one of the true joys of the Internet - you can send a quick email to any government office or government agency and get a reply, or at least have a reliable example of your having made an effort to get in touch with them.

So no matter if you're struggling with a government agency like the IRS or writing a thesis or essay on government or simply want news about what's going on in government today, you can find everything you need and much, much more quickly with one click of the mouse.
